Terms of Use

What you can expect from this site, and what it expects from you.

Last updated

The one that matters. An estimate on this site is a planning figure, not a quote and not professional advice. Nobody here has seen your property. Do not make a financial or safety decision on a number from a form.

Agreeing to these terms

Using CostNumbers means you accept what is on this page. If you do not, please do not use the site. These terms are between you and CostNumbers.

What an estimate is

Our calculators produce a range from published wage data and typical job costs. They are useful for budgeting and for telling a reasonable quote from an unreasonable one. They are:

  • Not a quote. No professional is bound by anything you see here.
  • Not an appraisal, inspection, survey or engineering opinion.
  • Not advice on safety, permits or law, all of which vary by jurisdiction.

A real price comes from a licensed professional who has seen the work. Where a job involves structural, electrical, tree or height work, that is not merely advisable — getting it wrong is dangerous.

Requesting quotes

When you ask for quotes we pass your request to professionals who can do that work. We are not a party to anything you then agree with them. Any contract, price, schedule, workmanship question or dispute is between you and the professional you hire.

We check licensing and insurance where a trade requires it, but a listing here is not a recommendation, an endorsement, or a guarantee of anyone's work. Get more than one quote, verify credentials yourself, and read what you sign.

Professionals pay to receive quote requests. That is how this site is funded, and it does not change any figure you are shown.

Using the site properly

You agree not to:

  • Submit someone else's details, or details for a project that is not real.
  • Scrape, copy or republish the calculators or their underlying data as your own.
  • Attempt to break, overload or gain unauthorised access to any part of the service.

Wage data on this site comes from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics and is public. Our pricing models, wording and design are not.

Availability

We try to keep the site up, accurate and current, and we update the underlying data as new figures are published. We do not promise it will always be available or always be right, and we may change or withdraw any part of it.

Liability

To the extent the law allows, CostNumbers is not liable for loss arising from reliance on an estimate, from any dealing with a professional you found through this site, or from the site being unavailable. Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited, including for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.

Changes

We may update these terms. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and continuing to use the site after a change means accepting it.
